Google Maps now works in Mexico and the Carribean! PDF Print E-mail
{answertips}On September 13, Google announced that they had added 54 new contries to their Google Map software.  On this list are many countries in the Carribean and Latin America.  For those planning a vacation or road trip abroad, this is fantastic news.  Instead of a glaringly empty gray screen on the border of the US, you will now see many of Mexico's cities and streets.  Planning a vacation in the Carribean?  Google has added maps for Aruba, Bahamas, Haiti, Cuba, with more to come.  This update has doubled their coverage of Latin American Countries.

Ready to jump in the drivers seat and head out on a road trip?  Take a close look at the maps.  Many aren't nearly as accurate as US coverage.  In Cancun, for example, Google Maps shows a road going right across the water!  The satellite coverage quality is noticeably degraded as you transition from the US to Mexican territory.  However, despite the poor satellite quality across the border, the street data appears to be quite accurate.

According to Google, this is just the beginning of many changes that will be coming in the next few months.  In addition to a growing list of supported countries, Google Maps intends to add more detail to the existing countries in its database.

Note:  Since these maps displayed show the maps directly from Google, it is very likely that Google will quickly improve these areas and the display will now longer show the errors.  Please let us know if the maps are updated!
